Almost a half-decade ago while studying for my driver’s test, an issue of Vogue UK, by hook or by crook, found its merry way atop my enthralling (ha!) Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles manual and promptly opened itself (or something like that) to divulge Nicolas Ghesquière's genius in this now-iconic Tim Walker image [below]. A welcome distraction indeed.

This prime bit of British wit – coupled with the Balenciaga Fall 2006 shoes' profuse and prolific editorial credits across the board in the July 2006 Vogue US (graced by coverstar Kate Hudson in, well, Balenciaga) – sparked a four-year odyssey to track down a pair for myself. The dénouement? Yesterday evening, owing to the power of ebay and some good old fashion first-time bidder’s luck, I actually won (and at a very reasonable price, might I add) a pair from the collection! Woot woot!
